Argus ─ DUCATI Monster S2R1000
2023年の東京モーターサイクルショー、HYODブースにて、ひときわ異彩を放つ一台のモンスターが展示されていた。その名は「Argus（アルゴス）」。
ギリシャ神話に登場する“百の目を持つ怪物”の名を冠したこのバイクは、DEUS Japan のカスタムビルダー、Dr.ソエダ氏によって、HYODプロダクツのために生み出された特別な一台だ。
HYODといえば、トップライダーたちのレーシングスーツを手がける、日本が誇るライディングギアブランド。その彼らから突然持ち込まれたカスタム依頼に、さすがのDr.ソエダも一瞬、言葉を失ったという。
ピットの中をうろつきながら、自身のコレクションの中にあったドゥカティ モンスター S2R1000の前で立ち止まり、彼はこうつぶやいた。
「モンスターというモデル名をリスペクトし、NARUTOが九尾を手なずけたようなイメージとHYODを重ね合わせて…」
イタリアン・モンスターの美学
ドゥカティ モンスターS2R1000は、空冷1000ccのL型2気筒エンジンを、最上級スポーツモデルのフレームに搭載し、片持ちスイングアームを備えるなど、まさにイタリアンバイクの魅力を凝縮した一台。フェラーリやランボルギーニ、アルファロメオといったイタリア車を思わせるような、美しさと官能性を兼ね備えた造形美。そのエンジンは獰猛でありながら、現代のフューエルインジェクションシステムにより、ある程度の“歩み寄り”も見せてくれる。まさに、扱いが難しいが惹かれてしまう、そんな“猛獣”のような存在だ。
新たな“怪物”へと進化したArgus
Dr.ソエダによるArgusは、モンスターS2R1000のポテンシャルを最大限に引き出しながらも、まったく新しい“何か”に昇華されている。
特徴的な二眼ヘッドライトは、LEDとハロゲンを巧みに組み合わせ、流れるようなカウルデザインに美しく収められている。
燃料タンクカバーとフレームのラインも完璧にコーディネートされ、さらに難易度の高いL型エンジンの排気管レイアウトまでも、芸術的な取り回しでサイレンサーへと導かれている。
その姿は、どこかアニメに登場するロボットのようでもあり、NARUTOの九尾のようでもある。まさに、想像と現実のあいだに生まれた“新しい怪物”だ。
そして何より、まだ世に十分に知られていない優れた車輌を見抜き、そこに独自のセンスと魂を吹き込み、さらなる可能性を引き出す──それこそがDEUSのマインドであり、このArgusという作品にもしっかりと息づいている。
既存の価値をなぞるのではなく、“まだ評価されていない良さ”に目を向け、新たな視点で再構築していく。
それがDEUS JAPANが提案する、次世代のカスタムカルチャーなのだ。
Dr.ソエダがArgusに込めた真意は──おそらく、誰にも分からない。
だが、その仕上がりを見れば、ただただ息を呑むしかない。

DUCATI Monster S2R1000
At the 2023 Tokyo Motorcycle Show, one custom machine stood out at the HYOD booth.
Its name: ARGUS.
Named after the all-seeing, hundred-eyed creature from Greek mythology, this distinctive build was created by Tomoyuki Soeda, lead bike builder at DEUS JAPAN, in collaboration with HYOD Products.
HYOD, known for its premium motorcycle gear and racing suits, commissioned the build as a statement piece. Soeda selected a Ducati Monster S2R1000 from his own collection as the base platform, an air-cooled L-twin with unmistakable Italian character and performance pedigree.
Inspired by the "Monster" namesake and HYOD’s bold brand identity, the concept took shape as a fusion of power, precision, and mythology.
The Spirit of the Italian Monster
The S2R1000 pairs Ducati’s signature air-cooled 1000cc L-twin engine with a lightweight sport frame and single-sided swingarm. Powerful, refined, and distinctly Italian, it captures the essence of performance and design - aggressive when pushed, yet balanced enough for everyday riding.
ARGUS - A Monster Reimagined
In the hands of Tomoyuki Soeda, the Monster S2R1000 has been completely transformed. A dual-lens front setup, combining LED and halogen, sits within a sculpted fairing that flows seamlessly with the bike’s form. The lines of the tank cover and frame are clean and deliberate, while the L-twin’s notoriously complex exhaust is expertly routed beneath the tail into a single, compact silencer. Visually, ARGUS lands somewhere between anime mech and modern myth - bold, angular, and alive. It’s a reflection of the DEUS approach: identifying overlooked potential, reimagining it, and creating something entirely new. What Soeda aimed to express may not be fully defined, however the result speaks volumes.
